About Nandi County

Nandi County is located in Kenya's North Rift region, bordering Kakamega, Vihiga, Kisumu, Kericho, Uasin Gishu and Bungoma counties. Kapsabet is the county headquarters. Fertile highlands, forests, abundant rainfall and rivers support intensive agriculture. The population is predominantly Nandi, a sub-group of the Kalenjin community. Tea, maize, dairy farming, coffee, sugarcane and horticulture are the principal economic activities. Trade, education and agro-processing also contribute significantly. The county preserves vibrant Kalenjin traditions through ceremonies, oral history and music. Historically, Nandi is associated with the resistance led by Koitalel Arap Samoei against British colonial rule and is internationally recognised for producing exceptional distance runners.
